Ramaphosa will meet with Sisulu to discuss about South African Tourism sponsoring football club Tottenham Hotspur
The gathering comes after long discussions Sisulu had over the weekend with SAT board members.
"On Saturday, the board gave her a thorough explanation of the transaction. The president must now be informed as the next step. In the coming days, she will meet with the president, after which an announcement will be made, "Steve Motale, her spokesperson, said to News24 on Monday.
Ramaphosa still needed to receive a briefing on the proposal, according to presidency spokesman Vincent Magwenya, and he had no plans to make an announcement about it during the State of the Nation Address.
According to Magwenya, the presidency did not believe that "spending so much money in the manner that is being suggested will be justified."
The proposed agreement, worth £42.5 million (roughly R900 million), would begin at the start of the 2023–24 season and would end at the conclusion of the 2026–27 season.
As compensation for the enormous investment, SA Tourism will receive branding for the team uniforms, branding for the interview backdrops, match-day advertising, partnership announcements, training camps in South Africa, free admission to the games, and stadium hospitality.
During a media briefing on Thursday, it received harsh criticism. Themba Khumalo, the acting CEO of SAT, defended it though, claiming that they had anticipated the backlash.
The weekend saw the immediate resignation of three SAT board members: Enver Duminy, Ravi Nadasen, and Rosemary Anderson. The procedure to appoint "suitable replacements" is underway after Sisulu accepted the resignations.
